Spaghetti Sauce
Many
families have a secret recipe for spaghetti sauce, often
handed down over several generations. There are many different
ways to make a great spaghetti sauce, and different ingredients
make each recipe special. The first recorded recipes for tomato
style spaghetti sauce date back to the
17th century. Prior to this time, tomatoes
were thought to be poisonous. Spaghetti sauce is thought to be
an Italian food, but the first recipes came from Spain.

made from tomatoes, olive oil, garlic and spices. Special
ingredients vary widely—from onions to red wine to carrots to
green peppers to beef broth to brown sugar to grape jelly. The
list could go on and on.
Tastes
vary widely, and there is no perfect way to make spaghetti
sauce. Many people choose to add various types of meats,
including ground beef, meatballs, spare ribs, pork chops or
sausage. Each gives the spaghetti sauce a slightly different
flavor.
Spaghetti sauce is one of the most popular
foods around, and whether you make your own or choose to
purchase one of the hundreds of commercially available products
available, it is likely to be a staple of many families’ dinner
tables.
